There's a National Burger Day I had no idea about till earlier this week! So while the pubs and cafes and restaurants and burger joints were fighting it out for hungry customers, we decided to make our own. Here's my mushroom burger recipe :)
What you need
Large flat mushrooms - 4, chopped into chunky pieces
New potatoes - 8 to 10 medium sized
Garlic - 4 to 5 cloves, chopped fine
Spring onions - 4 to 5 stalks, chopped fine
Mozzarella - 125 gm
Cheddar cheese - 100 gm, grated
Salt & pepper
Oregano - 3/4 tsp
Paprika - 1 tsp
Olive oil - 1 tbsp
Breadcrumbs
Egg - 1, beaten
Burger buns or soft white baps - 4
Oil to shallow fry
Green salad leaves
Mayonnaise
What you do
Heat oil in a frying pan, to shallow fry
When the oil is hot, dip a patty in the beaten egg, coating both sides, and then coat evenly with breadcrumbs
Place in the frying pan immediately
Do the same for the remaining patties
Shallow fry till both sides are brown and crisp
When you flip the patties over, that's when you start prepping your burger buns
Slice the buns in half and arrange face up on a large baking tray
Slice the mozzarella and place on all the buns
Grill at around 225 degrees celcius till the cheese has melted and begun to brown
To serve, arrange salad leaves on the bun bottom, place a mushroom patty on top, add a dollop of mayonnaise (mustard/ ketchup/ chilli sauce / spicy salsa maybe?), some more salad leaves, and then your bun top!
Open mouth wide, and chomp! :)
