So you know how I mentioned in an earlier post about The Brockley Mess that Lewisham has proven quite interesting where food is concerned? There's another place we discovered close to work that serves some great Turkish pizza. Meze Mengal on Lewisham Way. In fact, probably the best pide I've eaten so far! I've been to Meze Mangal so many times now, but it's funny how I've always skipped the large selection of cold and hot mezze, the kofte and kebabs and grills, and chosen one of their many pide options. For between £6.50 and £8.00, I've had fresh bread and dips (on the house), and a delicious main with salad.
The Pide base has been unerringly soft with just that slightest bit of crusty bite. The toppings have been generous and beautifully flavoured. There's a variety of chicken, lamb, sausage or vegetarian to choose from. My personal favourite is the Sebzeli & Peynirli Pide, which is a vegetarian pide with spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers, onions, cheese and seasonings. Ah so good! And after all that veg and side salad, you don't feel all that unhealthy either.
The restaurant is large and spacious and there's a live kitchen too. The only thing I miss is some Turkish influence in the decor. In appearance and ambience, Meze Mangal is ordinary, but you'll love that freshly baked pizza!
